Snoring Evaluation & Treatment

Snoring Treatment in
Stuart, FL

Snoring is common, and most of the time it is only noise. It is also the most visible symptom of obstructive sleep apnea. You cannot tell the two apart by how it sounds — but one night of measurement can.

  • Private, one-on-one overnight study — never a shared lab
  • Read epoch by epoch by Dr. Herstein, not auto-scored
  • Results the same week

Snoring, Or Something More?

Most Snoring Is Harmless. Some of It Isn't.

Snoring happens when tissue in a narrowed airway vibrates as you breathe. On its own it can be disruptive — to your sleep and to your partner's — without being dangerous.

But loud, frequent snoring is also the most recognizable warning sign of obstructive sleep apnea, a condition in which the airway repeatedly collapses during sleep and briefly cuts off airflow, often many times an hour, without fully waking you. Snoring is what people notice. Apnea is what does the damage — and roughly 80 to 90 percent of cases go undiagnosed.

The honest answer is that no one can tell you which one you have from a description. That is a measurement question, and this is how you get it measured.

Signs That Make an Evaluation Worth Booking

  • Snoring loud or frequent enough to disturb someone else
  • Pauses in breathing that a partner has noticed
  • Waking up gasping or choking
  • Morning headaches, or a dry mouth and sore throat on waking
  • Daytime fatigue and trouble concentrating
  • Sleep that never leaves you feeling rested

This list is a reason to get evaluated, not a diagnosis. Only a sleep study can tell you what is actually happening while you sleep.

What an Evaluation Involves

How You Find Out Which One You Have

There are two ways to measure sleep-disordered breathing, and they are not equivalent. Stuart Sleep performs comprehensive in-lab studies, because that is what separates simple snoring from apnea — and tells us which kind.

The screening tool

Home Sleep Test

A small device you wear at home, recording a limited set of signals — usually airflow, effort, and blood oxygen. It can flag moderate-to-severe obstructive apnea, and it is convenient. What it cannot do is see your brain activity, so it does not know when you were actually asleep, how deeply, or what fragmented your night. Milder apnea and other sleep disorders are often missed entirely, and the report is typically scored by software.

What we do

In-Lab Sleep Study (Polysomnogram)

One night in a private suite at Stuart Sleep, monitored by a specialist in real time. A polysomnogram records EEG for brain waves and true sleep staging, EKG for heart rhythm, breathing, oxygen, and movement together — the full picture rather than a slice of it. It is the standard for diagnosis, and it is what tells us whether your snoring is primary snoring or something that needs treating.

A fuller side-by-side comparison lives on our Sleep Studies page.

What the Night Actually Looks Like

1

A Consultation First

We start with a free consultation covering your symptoms, your health history, and any sleep testing you have already had.

2

One Night, Private Suite

Arrive in the evening and sleep in a private, one-on-one room — not a shared lab. Sensors are applied before bed and a specialist monitors the study through the night.

3

Read Epoch by Epoch

Dr. Herstein personally reviews your study epoch by epoch — brain waves, heart rhythm, breathing, oxygen — rather than signing off on a computer-generated summary. Auto-scoring is a starting point, not a diagnosis.

4

Answers the Same Week

You sit down with Dr. Herstein and go through what the data showed in plain language, typically within the same week — not after weeks of waiting.

After a Diagnosis

Where Treatment Goes From There

What happens next depends entirely on what the study shows. We don't know which of these applies to you until we measure — and we would rather say that plainly than promise you a treatment before we have your data.

If it's primary snoring

Snoring Without Apnea

If your study shows snoring without significant airway obstruction, you do not need apnea treatment, and we will tell you so. The conversation turns to what is driving the noise — sleep position, nasal airflow, alcohol timing, weight — and to referral where a structural cause needs a specialist. This is a real and common result.

If it's sleep apnea

POxT — a CPAP Alternative

Stuart Sleep developed POxT, or Positional Oxygenated Therapy — a patent-pending approach available nowhere else. Gentle angular positioning opens the airway and supplemental oxygen keeps your levels steady overnight. No mask, no hose, no forced air, and you can move, talk, and get up freely. Whether it suits your case is a question your in-lab data answers.

If apnea is severe

CPAP and Combination Therapy

Some cases are too severe for positional therapy alone. For those patients we use CPAP or BiPAP — often combined with our positional and oxygen-based methods, which in many patients reduces the pressure required and makes the therapy easier to stay with. If you have already tried CPAP and stopped, that is worth telling us.

POxT is provided under the supervision of Dr. Richard Herstein. For some patients with severe sleep apnea, POxT may be part of a broader plan rather than a full replacement for CPAP — we'll tell you honestly what your data shows.
